Sparks

Why see Sparks?

It's a Sparks show, a Sparks show, a Sparks show tonight!

Eclectic, electric, eccentric, there are many adjectives to try to describe the magic of Sparks, but there's really nothing like seeing them doing what they do live! On the back of a hugely busy 2022 that saw not only the release of their 25th studio album but a hit documentary, (Edgar Wright's The Sparks Brothers) and their first scored feature film (Annette starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard) the Mael brothers are back on the road in support of their upcoming  26th record; The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte!

Known for their theatrical style and witty lyrical flights of fancy, Sparks first hit the charts back in 1974 with the whirlwind falsetto of 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both of Us' and have been honing their craft ever since. Through constant artistic re-invention and boundary-pushing ambition, they remain one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their generation. Expect the unexpected when Sparks hit North America once more this year!

Sparks: a Timeless Lovefest

As Ron Mael said from the stage, while he and Russel basked in the extended applause after the last song of the night, "this is a venue." It was to mark the difference between playing the Disney Concert Hall and the Lincoln Theater: the intimacy of the smaller 'venue,' with fans who have followed the band over their 50+ year career, was what made it possible for Sparks to do what they do so well: defy all expectations, from one song to the next, with consistently original music. While most modern music can be conveniently placed in one category or another, you will never be able to put Sparks in a box, and there is much joy--and laughter--to be had in this. I could tell you more about how tight the band was, of Russell's superb vocal gymnastics, even Ron's dancing and the clarity of the house mix, but instead I'll say this: after the show, I spoke with a 65 year old man who flew from Ohio for the show. He told me that at age 12, he decided "Sparks is my band." We all felt that way. ... Read more
